Well we made it through the first month of school!!!  Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow and that Monday is picture day.


Today we learned the letter Oo.

When we learned this letter we pretended that we were turning the lights off and on.

We also learned the word family ot.

We made words like dot, tot, hot and jot.

This afternoon we finished up this week's centres and a lot of students completed all of them and the rest of them did better.  Next week our goal is to work quieter and stay focussed during centre time.

In computers today we played some pattern games and worked on reading skills on starfall.com.

In Math today, we worked on sorting differnet items into like groups.  We played a fun odd and even sorting game which you can click on below:

Also today, we got to go to the gym and do some fun circuit activities with the our Apple School's Teacher Mrs. Zielke.  We got to use scooters, to crab walks, hop through hula hoops and a couple of other fun activities.  It was a good way to blow of some steam in the afternoon.

Tonight in students homework bag there is a permission slip for picture day because if the weather is nice it will be across the street in the trees.  Please fill out the form and return it by Thursday.

Also, please remember to return all Purdy's fundraising tomorrow as I would like to get the orders sent off as soon as possible.  The students are so excited for the ipods and can't wait for me to order them.

This afternoon we had our first school Liturgy.  Father Paul came to do the homily and we sang some wonderful songs of worship.

We finished this weeks centres today and we got lots more done.  Next week our goal is to use a quiet whisper voice while working during centre time so that we do not disturb the students reading with Mrs. Easton.


Finally, there is no homework this weekend but it's always fun to read on Raz-kids.

This morning we had a substitute teacher because Mrs. Easton was doing reading testing in the hallway.  Every student got a chance to read one on one with Mrs. Easton and you can look forward to an upcoming email detailing progress in the classroom.

This afternoon we continued to work on centres and some of the students are getting pretty close to completing all of this week's centres.  We are slowly getting into the routine.

Later, we watched LeapFrog's learn to read movie which gave tips on how to read new words.  Students learned about sounding out words using their knowledge of letter sounds, looking at pictures, reading on to figure out meaning and making sense of text.  If you would like to watch the movie at home you can find it online by following the links below:

Last week's centres are coming home tonight.  Please review them with your child.  We are really working on centre routines in class and the goal is for students to get at least 2 centres completed every day.

In social studies today we looked at picture of our community Fort McMurray.  We saw the hospital, St. John's church, the RCMP station, St. Anne School and many others.

In Social studies today we located Canada on a world map and a map of North America,  Alberta on a map of Canada, and finally Fort McMurray on a map of Alberta.  It was lots of fun learning all about where we live.

First off, tomorrow afternoon is our Terry Fox run outside.  Please make sure you check the temperature in the morning and send your child dressed for the weather as we will be out for almost an hour.

Today we learned the letter Ee

When we learned these letter we pretended that we were cracking eggs in a fryng pan.

Today we learned the word family et.

We made words like met, get, wet and fet.

We got to go to library today for the first time.  Students will bring home a new book every Wednesday and must bring it back before the following Wednesday to sign-out a new one.

In math today we started the Patterns Unit.  The learning goals for this unit are:

1. Identify and copy patterns
2. Create and extend patterns
3. Talk about how a pattern repeats
4. Solve problems with patterns
5. Recreate the same pattern using different materials

Here are some pattern activities you can do at home.

1. Go on a pattern hunt around your home
2. Make a colour pattern using different colour crayons
3. Cut out pics from a newspaper/magazine to make patterns
4. Use household objects to make patterns
5. Make a pattern and have your child extend it
