To help students improve their reading we work on mastering sight words and word families (keys).  These are words and word families (keys) that students need to be able to recognise without sounding out.  This helps improve their reading fluency (the speed, smoothness, and ease of oral readingand gives them confidence when reading.

On our class website I have placed all of the different sight words and word families (keys) that we need to know by the end of grade 1.  For now, please focus on the Preprimer sight words and the Word Family (keys) flashcards.

You can download the Preprimer and Word Family (Key) Flashcards here.

You can practice them as a slideshow on your computer by clicking here.

Both the prepimer sight words and the word families (keys) will be assessed at the end of October/Beginning of November for the first term report card.

Also, please check out the video below to see an example of how to assist your child when they are reading at home.

Today we learned the letter Mm.
When we learned this letter we pretended that we ate something yummy so we rubbed our tummy.

Check out the Jolly Phonics Link on our website to practice the songs.

We also learned the am key.
We made words like jam, ham, lamb, ram, mam, and slam.

You can play an am game online by clicking here.

Have a great weekend!
