In math we started a new numbers 0-20 unit.
Finally, at the end of the day we had a fire drill. It was pretty chilly outside. Have a great night!
The
learning goals for this unit are:
- Read and print numbers to 20.
- Read number words to 20.
- Count forward from 0-20 and backward from 20-0.
- Count by matching the number word to the objects being counted.
- Build numbers by arranging and rearranging objects.
- Recognise familiar groups of objects or dots.
- Compare and order numbers and groups of objects using words such as more, less and same.
- Estimate the number of objects and check by counting.
- Use real life materials to help solve simple number problems.
Here
are some activities you can do at home.
- Use small objects to
have your child show you groups of 1-20
- Compare like sets (the
same number of objects) and have you child talk about how they are alike
- Play I Spy using
numbers as the key (ie. I spy something with four legs)
- Use small objects to
have your child show a number in different ways (12 keys, 12 spoons, 12
toys)
- Do the Ten Frame Slide
Show on the class website (click on the slideshows link to the lower left)
- Give your child spoons
& forks. Have them come
up with diff. combinations to show 11 objects.
- Practice estimating
groups of objects between 1-20.
- Practice number words
by clicking on the link below.
- Practice counting to
20.
