Tomorrow is Halloween!!!!  Please send students to school in their costumes.  Please don't bring any extra props (swords, wands, etc) as they tend to get lost, and make sure students can see well if they are wearing a mask.  Also, please feel to join us in the afternoon for our dance, snacks, movie and games from 1:00pm-2:50pm.



Today we learned the letter Ff.
We pretended that we were pushing the air out of our fish.

We also learned three new keys; all, ell and ill.
We made words like all, tall, bell, tell, kill and will.

In Math today we continued to talk about place value.  Check out this little video I made to demonstrate using ten bars and one blocks to show place value.

We started our day with Religion today.  We talked about how God will always try to find us when we are lost.  We watched a little movie about the Parable of The Lost Coin to put this into context.


In Math today we worked on our place value mats.  We are learning about tens and ones.  Here is a copy of the place value mats we use at school.

In Social Studies today we talked about responsibilities.  Here is a list we made of some responsibilities that kids have:

  1. Clean up your room.
  2. Always keep promises.
  3. When you make a mess clean it up.
  4. Help water the garden.
  5. Follow the rules at school.
  6. Take the dog for a walk.
  7. Help set the table.

We reviewed the letter Ll today.
We pretended that we were licking lollipops.


We also learned the key: al
We made words like mal, Allie, Alex and pal.

In Art today we made Haunted Houses and Witches.  The kids are bringing them home tonight and hopefully they add to your Halloween decor.

In Social Studies we read the story "From Far Away" by Robert Munsch.

 We then talked about ways we could make a new student feel welcome:
  1. We could eat lunch with them
  2. Show them around the school
  3. Share your toys
  4. Read them a story
  5. Play with them


Finally, we ended our day with our whole school Liturgy.  Here is one of the songs we sang that the students really loved:

Today we learned another two short Uu keys: ud, uck
We made words like rud, mud, yuck and buck.

In LA we read the story "Where's My Mummy" by Carolyn Crimi.  We then made connections to the text by talking about what are parents do when we are scared.  After, we got to make our own "Mummies".  Check them out:

Finally, tomorrow we will be celebrating a whole school Liturgy at 1:45 and you are more than welcome to join us.

In math today we were introduced to ten frames.  A ten frame looks like this:


We use ten frames to represent numbers.  Here are some examples:


In Social Studies we talked about how some jobs are inside jobs and some are outside jobs.  We also discovered that some jobs, like a policeman or a fireman, can be both an inside and an outside job.

In Art today we made seasonal trees.  They will be put up on the bulletin board next week when the paint dries, so I will post a picture then.

Finally, we ended the day with Social Studies.  We began talking about celebrations.  Today we focussed on how we celebrate our birthday.  We came up with the following ways to celebrate our birthday:
  • we have cake
  • we invite friends over
  • we get presents
  • we have parties
  • we play games


Last, but definitely not least, we have filled our marble jar at school.  That means we have earned a pajama party.  So, on Wednesday, October 24th, we get to wear our jammies to school!  Yeah!!!!

This afternoon we were really lucky to have some of the hockey players from the Keyano Huskies come in to do their active warm up with us and to raise money for the United Way.  Check out some pics below:

Today we learned two new word families: om and on.

In Social Today we started to learn about community helpers.  Here are some that we talked about; firemen, policemen, chefs, grocers, truck drivers, etc...

Finally, The Keyano Huskey’s are coming into our school to do some activities with us!  All students are asked to bring in $2.  The theme is “The change starts here”. Each class will put their classroom’s money into our school “piggy bank” for change starts here!  Also, a choose most often snack will be provided.

We'll I'm back!  I had a great visit with my grandmother and the substitute teacher Ms. Lowe said the class did great while I was away.

In Religion we reviewed our Thanksgiving prayer one last time.  Maybe you can use it next year at your Thanksgiving table:



In Math today we reviewed the numbers 1 to 10 and how we can represent them with pictures, numbers and words.  We read the great book "Chicka Chicka 123" by Bill Martin, Michael Sampson and Lois Ehlert.  Check out a fun version of it below:

Today we learned the letter Oo.
When we learnt this letter we pretended that we were turning a light switch on and off.


We then practiced the ot word family.
We made words like: pot, cot, hot and not.

In Art today we made cute turkeys, take a look in your child's Kanga Pouch, and then you can have a hand made thanksgiving craft for decoration this Thanksgiving weekend.

In Social, we continued to discuss rural and urban communities.  We watched the movie Magic School Bus: In the City.  We found out that the city is not a great place for wild animals to live.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend.  I will be heading to Ontario to celebrate with my 91 year old Grandmother and won't be back until Friday.  I will still be checking my email so you can get in touch with me that way.

Well it looks like Fall is officially starting to set in.  That being said, please remember to send warm clothes for your child for outdoor recess.

Today we learned the letter Gg.
We pretended that we were gurgling water down the drain.


We also learned the word family (key): ag
We made words like sag, bag, lag, and tag.

In Social we read the story Town Mouse, Country Mouse.  Here is a little cartoon version of the story:


After reading the story we talked about how city communities are called Urban Communities and country communities are called Rural Communities.

In Math today we finished our patterns unit.  We worked on sorting different objects based on like attributes.  We played the fun sorting game Ollie's Recyclables to practice sorting.

In Religion today we talked about the miracle of Jesus feeding thousands with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, and that when he was done there were 12 baskets of food left over.  We learned that Jesus is not just enough - He's too much!  John 6:5-13
